Designed by Mario Bellini in 1971, Totem originates from an absolute form: a cube measuring approximately 51 centimeters per side that houses a complete Hi-Fi system.
When closed, it does not reveal its function. When open, it transforms: the two speakers separate from the central body to reveal the stereo module, radio, and turntable, finding their place freely in space. Form and function coincide in a radical design capable of changing from a compact volume into a listening machine with a single simple gesture.
«Music is an immaterial message and has no visible form,» Bellini wrote. Totem assigns it an elementary, precise, and recognizable shape.
In the Cobalt Blue Special Edition, a deep, saturated shade alters the perception of the volume without compromising its rigor. The color adds density to the surfaces, making the cube more intense when closed; upon opening, the composition gains depth, and the blue becomes an integral part of the design in space.
It is perhaps the most contemplative of Totem’s new interpretations: bold without being dominant, highlighting both the compactness of the cube and its transformation.
Crafted and painted in Italy, Totem preserves the original 1971 design while integrating a contemporary audio system. In an era where listening has become almost invisible, Totem continues to do the opposite: it gives music a physical place in space.
